Small business is the backbone of the US economy, employing over two-thirds of all Americans. Typically defined as employing 500 or fewer people, small and independent businesses face multiple challenges to their survival. Along with the rising costs of insurance, benefits, payroll, marketing and training; small business owners often find themselves at the mercy of zealous politicians and increasing taxes, fees, and municipal services. Competing in the marketplace is difficult enough, but business owners have the additional burden of over-reaching government that can be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. As the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) www.nfib.org operates on a national level, Small Business Alliance represents the interests of business on a state and local level. We communicate directly with legislators, regulators, media and our members. When legislation or regulations are proposed that may affect our members, we summarize and disseminate the information and the possible impact.
